After cooling, the refrigerant becomes liquid and enters the evaporator through the expansion valve. In the evaporator, the liquid refrigerant evaporates quickly, absorbing a large amount of heat and lowering the air temperature to provide cooling.

The fan blows air over the outer surface of the evaporator, absorbing heat and cooling the air. The cooled air is then sent into the room through the fan coil to provide cooling. The evaporated refrigerant returns to the compressor to begin the next cycle.
